BEC Provides Reliable Coverage in Rural Star Valley
Silver Star Communications was the first telephone company in the lower Star Valley community of Wyoming. It was organized and financed by a group of ranchers and businessmen in 1926 and was incorporated in the State of Wyoming in 1948, where it was first operated by Sterling Weber.
In July 2010, Silver Star was awarded two broadband grants from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) through the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program to complete fiber-optic projects from Jackson through Moran and over Togwotee Pass and from Jackson to Victor over Teton Pass, significantly advancing the broadband capabilities in the region and improving the reliability of communications in the State of Wyoming.
Silver Star Communications was looking for a vendor that would work with a smaller tier-3 carrier, since service available in the Star Valley, Wyoming area was very limited with little to no availability for service in its coverage area. Silver Star was able to find one vendor who had their desired product, but was left unsatisfied by the service and its availability. The product also had a long lead time and minimum order requirements, which restricted them from purchasing the product when needed and for the amount they were seeking. Silver Star Communications continued to look for a reliable product that would be easily accessible in the Star Valley community and found BEC Technologies, who offered them with “better communication and response time.”
The main product requirements for Silver Star were to be utilized in a data-only environment compatible with B12. In the 700MHz spectrum, would be able to fulfill the speed requirements for their fixed wireless data plan offerings. By selecting the 6200WZL as their 4G/LTE broadband router, Silver Star Communications was able to deliver a solid working product to their subscribers, coupled with top-notch customer service.
With BEC devices, Silver Star Communications reports that they are very easy to install and the “support staff is knowledgeable and responds in a timely manner.” The ease of installation and dependable service saves Silver Star from losing money and helping them avoid unsought instances, such as truck rolls and poor performance.
The best part of using BEC devices is having their own customized firmware, according to Tom Byers, Silver Star’s Wireless Operations Manager. After the product evaluation and approval are completed ,BEC support staffs would help to build a custom firmware based on the network requirement. All future orders will get preloaded with this custom firmware prior to shipment to avoid settings get erased after the reset, reboot or a power cycle.
Tom Byers also reported to have an accommodating experience with BEC’s Rapid RMA Replacement process and getting a quick response to any issue from BEC’s support staff that are very easy to work with.
Support staff is knowledgeable and responds in a timely manner.
