Over the past 20-plus years, the security, industrial, remote monitoring, and other sectors have relied almost exclusively on 2G networks to power their machine-to-machine (M2M) devices, applications, and services. But with carriers looking to reclaim bandwidth for future network technologies, 2G service is slated be taken offline by the end of 2016, leaving embedded OEMs in need of connectivity solutions for their existing and future IoT products.
