BEC has always been at the forefront in engineering devices which provide better wireless broadband and high-speed Internet access to underserved customers. The Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative (BIT) is in the process of expanding its Cellular, Broadband, and Wi-Fi offerings in south-central Virginia. One of the key aspects of this process was finding a reliable service with more bandwidth for broadband services to cover more counties. Thus far, B.I.T. is using BEC’s LTE products exclusively and successfully throughout 5 counties in the rural areas of south-central Virginia.

The Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative, founded in 1951, provides quality communications services and products along with rapid deployment of the latest wireless technology and infrastructure necessary to assist in the economic revitalization efforts of south-central Virginia. BIT is committed to bringing broadband services to the 299,375 people, 102,400 households, 15,100 businesses, and 834 community anchor institutions in south-central Virginia.

Challenges

With the goal of making high-speed broadband available to areas that have never had high-speed internet access and areas that have only had access to unreliable and terribly expensive service, BIT was faced with a challenge. Before partnering with BEC Technologies, BIT provided a limited local, long-distance, and DSL broadband services to their subscribers in its traditional footprint in just a few counties in the south-central region of Virginia.

BIT wants to offer fixed higher speed wireless with more bandwidth for broadband services that will cover more counties in the south-central region of Virginia.

How Product Helped

Over the past 6 months, Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative (BIT) has been rolling out its new 4G LTE fixed wireless broadband throughout Virginia using BEC’s LTE products exclusively. Using the 6200WZL, 6300VNL, 6800RUL and VG2600, BIT has delivered a myriad of solutions from BEC devices. Using BEC’S devices has enabled BIT to expand their Cellular, Broadband, and Wi-Fi services. With the addition of their LTE Network, BIT can offer a higher fixed-wireless speed with more Bandwidth for broadband services.
